Writer's pictureUada Navis (September)

Who is Me'an Fomhair?

For anyone in the business of creating characters, they can attest that some days, they relate with certain characters more than others. This must especially be true of those creating character that they must enact themselves.

Uada Navis, my mersona, is whimsical and curious, playful and innocent. Some days I am blissfully Uada. And some days I'm a bloody tempest.

So who is this other mer I find swimming around in my brain? The one who is fearsome and fearless and welling--the siren I find making her way into my other photos and swims? Chances are there's a few of them ;) and I'm just crafting an entire pod of possibilities.

Yet, one thing is for certain--there is a Siren there, one who is dark and tempestuous, who is the very rise and fall of the sea itself. This must be Me'an.

Me'an Fomhair was a name gifted to me by a fine Irishman while teaching me Gaelic, and it translates to the "Middle of Fall." As a Siren, she is largely vocal, while Uada is more or less still in the animalistic phase of speech.

Perhaps, she is the counterpart to Uada, for she is unabashed and terrifying. Admittedly, I was shocked to see how she appeared on camera--much more gothic and intense than I expected.

Terribly seductive...

And... so very little like myself.

Now, something about this shoot certainly screams "Mer-sploitation" but that aside, she is an interesting addition to the roster.
